Let's Play Another Story of Fallen Maidens, Part 1

So, an MGE RPG Maker game came out a few days ago (you can find it on DLsite), and it's a sequel to Fallen Maidens. Since I just finished translating the short from that book, and I've already done three of the eight Fallen Brides stories, I decided to do a screenshot LP. I'll be translating the full script as I go, so feel free to play along.

My summary of events will be in italics and justified right; translated text from the game will be as normal. Let me know what you think.

Now, without further ado, let's play Another Story of Fallen Maidens: The Falling Hero and the Magic Sword of Truth.

(Text after the cut.)

We open on a text crawl over a red moon (or, possibly, sun) rising in a black sky.

The Lescatié Theocracy—
A birthplace of Heroes and a hope for humanity,
illuminated by the universal authority of the Chief God.

Or so it was said.
Lescatié was transformed into a Monster Realm, a garden of love and pleasure, in a single night
at the hands of a lone lilim — a powerful succubus and daughter of the Dark Lord —
the fourth imperial princess, Deruella.

The Order of the Chief God, not yet grasping the severity of the situation,
gathered up their forces and launched an operation to retake the theocracy.

However...

· · · · ·

Fade in through rushing dark clouds. A boy runs along a dimly-lit city street. He stops in front of three monsters, each on top of a man.

???: "Huff... huff..."

"Tee hee hee, how cute"
"Aahn Aaaah"
"Come on, use your hips more"

Boy Soldier: "No good here either..."

He keeps running. When he passes a church, a voice calls out, and he stops. Two monsters are standing on the roof.

???: "Oh my... So there's still a little straggler in a place like this"

???: "No fair! I saw him first!

The pair come down to street level, blocking his way forward.

Demon: "Does it really matter? It's not like he'll get used up."

Devil: "Well, I guess not. And going out of their way to attack, when Lescatié's a monster realm now..."

Demon: "Hee hee They can't complain if they get 'eaten,' can they?
Demon: "There's nothing to be afraid of... We'll start gentle"

Devil: "That's right. Be a good boy and leave everything to us, and you can feel good like the others"

???: "You there, soldier. Don't move."

A woman in a blue hat dashes in between the boy and the monsters, sword drawn.

Boy Soldier: "Huh..."

Boy Soldier: "You're..."

Demon: "Ngh! Curses...! How dare you be so boorish; we were just getting to the good part!"

Blue Hat Girl: "I don't know what you're scheming, but... I have nothing to say to monsters."

Demon: "Don't get cocky, girl...!"

Devil: "H, hey, big sis! She's one of them!"

Demon: "Them...?"

Devil: "An Order Hero! We got orders about them, right? 'If you meet one, combat is forbidden; withdraw immediately'..."

Demon: "Ngh... It's her highness' order, so we've got no choice. Remember this!"

Devil: "Thhpppbbbt!"

The monsters fly off. The boy and girl are left alone.

Blue Hat Girl: "Are you alright? I am Eristia Vitraiyu, a Hero in service to the Chief God and the Order."

Boy Soldier: "The Hero Eristia... I knew it, you're..."

Eristia: "Hey. We may be about the same age, but that's no way to greet a superior officer you've never met. Your name and unit?"

Boy Soldier: "Yuri Karelstein, fifth company. My, humble apologies... You looked like an old acquaintance, and..."

Eristia: "It doesn't matter."
Eristia: "As you can see, the recapture operation is a failure. From the look of things, even the exorcists from the mercenary guild are..."
Eristia: "No point talking now. We're going to escape the city. Can you run?"

Boy Soldier: "Yes ma'am!"

The pair run off to the right. Fade to black.

· · · · ·

One week later...

Fade in on a richly-decorated room with a desk and bed. Eristia is standing in front of an old man in robes. A nun stands off to one side.

Order Bishop: "Hero Eristia. Thank you for your work suppressing rebels in the border region, and your subsequent participation in the operation to retake Lescatié."

Eristia: "I am honored by your consideration, Lord Bishop. I humbly apologize for being unable to join battle when the capitol fell."

Order Bishop: "The situation is dire. Now that the recapture operation has failed, and aid from central won't be coming, we no longer have even a moment to waste...
"Have you the resolve to take on a noble mission for the Chief God and we of the Order?"

Eristia: "Of course. That is why we Heroes exist. Please, command me."

Order Bishop: "Humph, you always were dependable. I suppose it's worth something that you made it through without yielding to the monsters. Well then..."

Eristia: "This is...?"

Order Bishop: "A few days ago, we discovered a presumed enemy scout. They dropped these written orders. The bearer, unfortunately, fled before we could capture them.
"The orders consist of three items. First, observing our movements. Second, supporting monsters who wish to abduct soldiers. Those are obvious. The problem is what comes next.
"They claim to have insolently rummaged through the Theocracy's sacred documents, and discovered clues to an important relic. The scout was apparently ordered to investigate the matter."

Eristia: "..."

Order Bishop: "There are said to be ruins in the forest several leagues northeast of this encampment. In that ground sleeps the Magic Sword of Truth.
"Legend has it the sword bestows its possessor with the power to attract the future they desire."

Eristia: "Do you think the information is correct, Lord Bishop?"

Order Bishop: "I cannot say. However, if such a relic does really exist, and if it was to fall into the monsters' hands... it would be the end of us.
"On the other hand, if you are able to obtain such power... driving out those loathsome monsters, and retaking Lescatié will be no trouble at all.
"You will accept, won't you, Hero Eristia? I will make it known throughout the world that you are a true Hero, unlike the traitors who yielded to the monsters!"

Eristia walks out.

Eristia: (I'll return to my tent and prepare to set out. Before that, it might also be a good idea to look around and see how the soldiers are doing.)

At this point the player assumes control. Also, we learn that the bishop somehow managed to fit that whole room into a tiny tent. At this point we're free to walk around the camp and talk to the soldiers, or to go straight to Erisia's tent (on the right) and advance the story. All the soldiers' dialogue is below.

· · · · ·

First, we try turning around and interacting with the bishop's tent again.

Order Bishop: "Honestly... the Heroes from the Order of Knights changing sides, and that damned Norscrim running off somewhere...
"Why do I always have to draw the short straw like!? Honestly, they're all incompetents..."

Nun: "Oh, Lord Bishop... Getting worked up like that is bad for your health..."

· · · · ·

Next the soldier guarding the boxes next to the bishops's tent. He isn't happy.

Order Soldier: "Even though supplies are short at the best of times, the bishop practically bathes in wine every night...
"With our supposed commander indulging in sensual pleasures... I doubt this camp will hold out long."

· · · · ·

There's another soldier standing on his own towards the southwest.

Order Soldier: "I had a lover. I swore to spend my life with her. But when Lescatié fell, she...
"I have to tell myself she's already dead. I know that, but..."

· · · · ·

When we walk through the group of small tents on the south side of camp, the game stops us for a scene in which we overhear two soldiers gossiping.

Order Soldier (A): "Hey, have you heard? Word is that soldiers are deserting..."

Order Soldier (B): "Yeah. They say the bunch that came back from the operation to retake the capitol suddenly left in the middle of the night, and haven't come back..."

Order Soldier (A): "Apparently a guy on patrol caught sight of them a few days ago. Said monsters were coming to meet bunches like that, and carry them off..."

Order Soldier (B): "Monsters're all beauties. In a losing war like this... getting eaten now's probably an easier way to die. Ha ha."

Eristia: "Pathetic. Don't they know it is in adversity that our loyalty to the Chief God is tested?"

· · · · ·

When we walk down and talk to those soldiers in person, they're singing a different tune.

Order Soldier (A): "Oh, hello there, Lady Hero. We appreciate your efforts."

Order Soldier (B): "We'll fight the monsters to the bitter end!"

· · · · ·

The soldier patrolling the middle of camp doesn't have much to say.

Order Soldier: "Nothing to report!"

· · · · ·

The soldier minding some horses by the gate seems optimistic.

Order Soldier: "Once reinforcements arrive from central, we'll take back Lescatié for sure. Just a little more patience."

· · · · ·

Another soldier minding some crates is less so.

Order Soldier: "Everything's going the monsters' way, so we can't count on supplies from the local villages. At this rate..."

· · · · ·

One of the soldiers guarding the road into camp (there's no barrier or anything) fills us in on the situation.

Order Soldier: "The monsters have shown no sign of launching an attack since the recapture operation failed.
"They seem to be surrounding us from a distance and sounding out our condition, though... How creepy."

· · · · ·

The other one isn't so chatty.

Order Soldier: "Nothing to report!"

· · · · ·

When we try to leave, however, the game stops us.

Order Soldier: "Lady Hero, it's dangerous outside the encampment. Please refrain from going out..."

· · · · ·

That's it for NPCs in the camp. Now we enter Eristia's tent (which, like the bishops, somehow has wood and plaster walls, a wooden floor, a carpet and a four poster bed) and advance the story. The soldier from the intro is here to greet us.

Boy Soldier: "Thank you for all your hard work, Lady Eristia. I've finished mending your equipment."

Eristia: "Good work, Yuri. I needed a new squire after the last mission; I'm glad I found someone so well-qualified."

Squire Yuri: "It's an honor, Lady Eristia. So... what did the bishop want?"

Eristia: "I've been ordered to investigate a relic that sleeps northeast of here. I set out at dawn, so put my bags in order."

Yuri: "I've heard the soldiers gossiping. Wondering if we're losing the war against the monsters. They're saying the bishop is desperate..."
"It could be an enemy trap. Do you really have to go, Lady Eristia?"

Eristia: "Yes. My mission as a Hero is my reason for living. There's no place for doubt."
"I must go; I'm the only one left who can."

Yuri: "Then at least let me accompany you. If I hadn't met you, Lady Eristia, I wouldn't be here now, so..."

Eristia: "Thank you. I'll be counting on you, Squire Yuri."

Fade to black.

· · · · ·

Fade in on the road out of camp. It is presumably the next morning. This is a cutscene, so the guards don't stop Eristia this time.

Order Soldier: "I pray for your good fortune, Lady Hero. Please take care..."

Eristia: "May the Chief God's blessing be with you as well."
Eristia: "Now, let's go."

Yuri: "Yes ma'am!"

· · · · ·

Meanwhile, at around the same time...

The camera pans up a dim, red-carpeted hall, following a familiar figure who stops before a dais with a well-cushioned gilt throne.

Succubus Wilmarina: "Reporting. We have a report from an advance scout that there has been movement in the camp of the theocracy remnants.
"They're heading for that relic we managed to locate a few days ago... What shall we do, Lady Deruella?"

Deruella, Fourth Imperial Princess of the Monster Realm: "Hee hee... They don't know when to give up. Although, I can't imagine they'll find the sort of thing they're looking for."
Deruella: "Speaking of which... I believe one of your colleagues — a Hero who still hasn't fallen — is still with them?"

Succubus Wilmarina: "Oh... Yes. A hard-headed girl who's especially loyal to the Order, even for one of Lescatié's Heroes."
"She was part of the earlier attack as well... Perhaps we could have saved trouble if I'd taken her then. Was it really alright to let her leave?"

Deruella: "There was no helping it; I can't make you handle everything, and we have to avoid sacrificing troops. Whether their mine, or the Order's."
"Women into monsters, men into monsters' husbands. That's why we ordered the soldiers to avoid hostilities with her... even while we were ushering in our 'night'."

Succubus Wilmarina: "Lady Deruella. Wouldn't it be better if I went now, to forestall future grief? I'm sure those ruins are important..."

Deruella: "I don't care. Leave them. I have no intention of depriving you of precious time with your beloved... You worked so hard for it."

Succubus Wilmarina: "Aah... Thank you very much, Lady Deruella"

Deruella: "Besides, if my hunch is correct... I'm sure things will turn out more interesting this way."

Succubus Wilmarina: "As you command, Lady Deruella."

Exit Wilmarina.

Deruella: "Hee hee, I'm looking forward to this. Lescatie's last Hero, and the thing that sleeps in that ground... When they meet, I'm sure they'll make a dirty, beautiful flower bloom."

Fade to black.

· · · · ·

So, that's the setup. It seems pretty obvious where this is going, but the NPC dialogue and the time spent on scenes not directly related to romance or the narrator being corrupted do quite a bit to flesh out the scenario.

  4. Druella's an interesting character. Is it mentioned anywhere if she's already married? It would be hard to believe if she was not.

Also, is her name spelled as D(e)ruella or simply Druella? I believe there was some inconsistency regarding that during her TL.

Finally, thank you for translating this game. It was a pleasant surprise, I think, to many of us since the game was just released and isn't presented in a format easily translated. I find the LP enjoyable to read.

    1. Looking at the japanese letters, it should be spelled Deruella (デルエラ) rather than Druella (which would be ドルエラ). At least as far as my knowledge about the japanese language is able to say.

    2. Glad to hear you're enjoying it. Expect a second update this evening.

I prefer "Deruella" (although I may be alone in this) first of all because "デルエラ" pretty much only gets MGE results on a Japanese Google search. The only thing I've been able to find for comparison is a minor Harry Potter character named Druella Black, and the Japanese rendering of her name is "ドゥルーエラ". Additionally, while "u" and "o" sounds (the latter primarily at the ends of words) are often used fill the lack of a vowel sound in foreign words, I can't think of an example of an "e" sound being used for the same purpose.

I believe KC in an interview explicitly refused to answer the question of Deruella's marital status. On the one hand, it seems more plausible that she is, but from a character standpoint I think it would be more interesting if she isn't. It would mean she was a fanatical proponent of something she's never personally experienced. Kind of like the "What is best in life?" scene in the Schwarzenegger Conan the Barbarian film, where Conan has only been on the receiving end of the things he answers.

    3. As i said in the wiki page before, i think that D(e)ruella marital status is something that KC want us to draw our own conclusion what you think it's better (since MGE thank god is a world where we can put our dellusions as he already said, so we shouldn't expect too much canon facts like this from him).

For example if he said she was married, for some people that would like to imagine conquering her (like me) would see it as impossible (since cheating doesn't exist for monsters, and most people don't like to imagine doing it) the same way the demon lord is already impossible since she is already married to the strongest hero of his time(you can imagine it, only if you would like to put yourself in his place).

But if you prefer to see her as married to some random dude, them it's your choice :)
